VolleyballGator Volleyball in Europe 2004

May 10-22, 2004

May 12, 2004

Dear Gator Fans,

A 19 - 17 win in Game 5, we couldn't ask for a better first match of the tour. This afternoon we played the Dutch Junior National Team, a team of 17 and 18-year-olds training for the World Championships in two weeks. Behind Jane and Sherri's 15 kills and Michelle's 5 blocks, we won games 1, 3, and 5. Must be something about "odd" with this group.

Our day started with a tour through the Anne Frank museum. Managing the tight stair cases for ACL-deprived Amber McCray proved to be the easy part. Dealing with the sad reality of Anne Frank's tragic life was the hard part.

Tonight our players will go out for dinner with two of the Dutch pro players we compete against tomorrow (think I should be worried?) They are two very mature 23-year-olds who assured me they have plenty of experience. They also happen to be sitting next to me while I type this. Besides a local knowledge of the city, they have provided our players with great insight into the world of professional volleyball. As some of these Gators will have opportunities to play in Europe after college, Karen and Wieneke's advice might end up being of great benefit.

Tomorrow it's a tour of the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. Want to take a guess on how many players will join us?

Doey, (bye)
