Matt DeLancey

Assistant Director, Strength & Conditioning (Olympic Sports) – Twelth Year

East Stroudsburg ‘98

Matt DeLancey begins his 12th season as the strength and conditioning coordinator for the Florida volleyball team, having helped the Gators to eight Southeastern Conference titles and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances -- each year of his tenure.

DeLancey designs and implements the strength and conditioning program for the Gators. In addition to weight training, the athletes are on a year-round conditioning program that enhances their power, speed, agility, flexibility and overall anaerobic endurance levels.

Since DeLancey’s arrival prior to the start of the 2003 season, his impact is evident, as the Gators have posted a 64-20 (.762) record in matches lasting four sets or longer. His program is designed to allow Florida to be as fresh at the end of the fifth set as it was at the start of the match.

“We believe that we have the country’s premier strength and conditioning coach for the sport of volleyball,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “It’s one of the factors that has led to our success. It is the attention to detail and the sport-specific, position-specific approach that makes the training we get from Matt so unique. It’s not a cookie-cutter program. It is individually designed with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge training. We combine those two factors and that is why we reap the benefits.”

DeLancey has 11 years of coaching and teaching experience from the high school to the college level, including a stint as the associate head football coach and head strength coach for the weight lifting team at Carson Long Military Institute and as a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University.

During the summer of 2002, he interned in the strength and conditioning department at the University of Richmond, where he assisted with football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and men’s and women’s soccer. In August of 2002, he began working in the strength and conditioning department with the football team and women’s throwers at Florida.

In the spring of 2005, DeLancey was promoted to Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning, Olympic Sports. He also trains the Gator men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, and the University of Florida track and field athletes.

DeLancey earned his bachelor’s of science in physical education and health in 1998 from East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University. He also holds the NSCA, CSCS and USAW Club Coach Level 1 certifications.

DeLancey is married to former Gator Volleyball All-American Aurymar Rodriguez-DeLancey. The couple resides in Gainesville.
