Volleyball Athletic Trainer – Seventh Year

Florida ’04

Randall Vereb enters her seventh season as the volleyball athletic trainer at the University of Florida, her alma mater, and while out on maternity leave for the first portion of the season, will be assisted by Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Health, Stacey Higgins, and athletic training graduate assistant, Erin Clark.

Vereb is responsible for the day-to-day care of Florida’s 17 volleyball players. Her most notable accomplishment came during the 2008 season was keeping senior middle blocker Kelsey Bowers healthy and allowing her to become just the seventh player in school history to record 400 or more blocks. Bowers suffered a back injury during her participation in with the United States A2 team during the spring of 2008 that had some telling her she would never again play volleyball.

Vereb rejoined the Gators after one year as an assistant athletic trainer at Butler University in Indianapolis. At Butler, she served as the primary athletic trainer for volleyball, softball and men’s and women’s tennis.

Vereb spent two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Georgia, where she worked with the volleyball team and earned her master’s degree in exercise science. She also provided care for the Georgia cheerleading and dance teams and was an approved clinical instructor, as well as a teacher’s assistant for the athletic training education program.

Prior to her arrival in Athens, Vereb interned for a year at Florida Atlantic University, where she worked full-time with FAU’s football team, primarily working with the squad’s defensive players. At FAU, Vereb also assisted with Drug-Free Sport and helped with drug testing.

Vereb graduated from UF in August 2004, receiving a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science. She worked as a student athletic trainer with the volleyball team, as well as the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. As an undergraduate, Vereb also worked with all teams at Santa Fe High School and also gained experience at Shands Sports Medicine Complex.

A Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native, Vereb graduated from Piper High School in Sunrise, where she developed the student athletic training program. Vereb was the first female and the first student trainer to be named as a staff member to the Broward County All-Star Football Team in 2000.

The former Randall Wilkerson married Jason Vereb in May 2010, and the couple welcomed their first child, Finley Rae, this summer.
