Paul Kinney enters his first season with the Gator volleyball team and his second at the University of Florida after serving as the primary athletic trainer for UF's women's basketball team for the 2005-06 season.
Kinney, a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, came to Florida from Fordham University, where he was the head athletic trainer for the men’s basketball and baseball teams in 2004. While at Fordham University, he also oversaw training requirements for women’s volleyball.
Before Fordham, Kinney worked at Hofstra University where he was the head athletic trainer for volleyball and baseball for two years. Previously, he was the graduate assistant athletic trainer at California State University, Northridge, from 2000-02. At CSUN, he served as the primary trainer for the women’s basketball team and managed daily training activities of men’s soccer and men’s volleyball. Kinney also served as the clinical supervisor to a staff of student trainers.
In addition to his work at the collegiate level, Kinney has done athletic training work at the professional sport level for the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament and the San Jose Earthquakes, a Major League Soccer team.
After graduating from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1997, Kinney received his bachelor’s degree in physical education and kinesiology. In 2002, he went on to obtain his master’s degree in recreation management with an emphasis in sports administration and management from California State University, Northridge.
