Arlisa Hagan
  • Assistant Coach
  • 4th year at Florida
  • Wisconsin '93

Entering her fourth season as a member of the Gator staff, Arlisa Hagan serves as the recruiting coordinator as well as assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Florida volleyball program, including training and skill development.

"I knew when I was offered the assistant coaching position at Florida it was a dream come true," Hagan said. "After three years with the program, it's been beyond my wildest dreams. There are no better people to work with than Mary and Nick. The players are not only elite athletes, they are hard workers and great people. The support of our administration and everyone involved with the program is first class. Of course, there's nothing like winning! It truly is great to be a Florida Gator!"

And Hagan has certainly played an integral role in making it great to be a Gator. In her first complete season as Florida's primary recruiter, she helped haul in the No. 2 class in the nation according to PrepVolleyball.com with the addition of Marcie Hampton, Kisya Killingsworth, Kari Klinkenborg and Angie McGinnis in 2004. Then she followed with the No. 10 ranked class in 2005 - quite a feat considering no other team in the top 10 signed less than three scholarship players and the Gators only had two.

Each of Florida's four signees in the class of 2004 was ranked in both the Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 and in PrepVolleyball's list of the top 50 players in the country, including Angie McGinnis, who was ranked as the No. 2 player in the nation and the top setter, and Marcie Hampton, who was ranked as the fourth-best player in the country. Three of the four incoming players in 2004 also were named their state's player of the year at some point in their high school careers. Hagan added Kelsey Bowers in 2005 who was tabbed as the No. 5 player in the country giving Hagan three players in the top five in the last two years - a feat unmatched by any school in the nation.

Hagan helped lead the Gators to their first-ever appearance in the national championship match in 2003 and Florida has advanced to the Final Four in two of her three seasons as a member of the coaching staff. In addition, she has coached players who have combined to earn 11 All-America honors at Florida and a total of 15 All-SEC honors.

Still, the success was to be expected as Hagan's previous collegiate coaching stops at American University and Virginia Tech resulted in high degrees of prosperity. Before moving to Florida, Hagan helped lead American to an impressive 52-8 record during her two seasons at the school. It went 14-0 in the Patriot League in 2001 and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Colonial Athletic Association conference title the previous season.

Before working at American, Hagan served as a graduate assistant coach at Virginia Tech during the 1994 and '95 seasons. In addition to picking up valuable experience from the school, she earned a master's degree in education and student personnel services. Hagan applied both her degree and volleyball knowledge in the state of Virginia with stints in Career Services at Old Dominion University and as an Information Technology Recruiter in Richmond where she also coached a 12-and-under juniors team at the Richmond Volleyball Club from 1999-'00.

Hagan earned a bachelor's of arts degree in African American studies in 1993 from the University of Wisconsin, where she was a standout middle blocker for the school. She was a three-time All-Big Ten selection (1990-92) and a two-time All-Region pick (1990-91). She set Wisconsin career records for kills (1,495) and blocks (618) during her final year with the Badgers. Hagan was a member of Wisconsin's 1990 Big Ten Championship team and was a captain in her senior year.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Hagan resides in Gainesville.
