Christian Janssen joined the Gator volleyball family as a volunteer assistant in January 2001. Janssen, 28, assists in team and individual training sessions, and helps manage the team's statistics using digital video analysis.
Janssen brings a solid coaching background and adds another dimension to the UF staff. Janssen is in his second year of the sports management master's degree program at UF. Since August 2000, he has been teaching all levels of volleyball courses at UF. In October 2000, he was named Head Coach of the UF Men's A Club team. This past spring, he was the Gainesville Juniors 16-Developmental coach.
Janssen also brings an international perspective. In 1997, Janssen was the assistant women's volleyball coach for his alma mater Chichester University team in Chichester, England, that placed second in the National Universities Cup. Following that, he was named head men's coach at the University of Los Andes in Bogota, Columbia, where he stayed from 1998-1999 and achieved a national Top 5 beach ranking in '99. While at Chichester, he played for the team that won the Men's National University Cup in 1996 and reached the semi-finals in 1997. He was named a National Division I player in 1996 and 1997. Janssen received his bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from University College Chichester in Chichester, England in 1997. He learned under former Olympian and World Champion L. Beltran of Cuba.
