Took third in the Olympic Trials javelin, 186-11 - Needed to throw 196-10 to reach Olympic A Standard to make the trip to Sydney... had surgery to repair ruptured Ulnar collateral ligament in her right elbow in the fall of 2000... GTE Academic All-District III Spring At-Large Second Team honoree... SEC Academic Honor Roll... NCAA Outdoor Runner-up in the Javelin, 182-1 (55.50m) - Personal best - Florida "new" javelin record... 1999 AS A SOPHOMORE: Bests of 157-9 (Discus), 173-9 (Javelin) and 48-0.75 (Shot Put)... 14th at the USATF National Championships, 143-2... NCAA Outdoor All-American (fourth place) in the Javelin, 170-11- Top American in the field... Second in the SEC Outdoor Championships javelin, 157-9; fourth in the discus with exact same distance, 157-9 - Personal best at the time; and third in the shot put, 48-0.75- Personal best at the time... Fourth in the Penn Relays Championship javelin, 156-7... Florida Relays champion in the javelin, 151-6; eighth in the Shot Put, 45-7.25; and ninth in the discus (143-0)... Sixth in the SEC Indoor Championships shot put, 45-3.5.

PRIOR TO FLORIDA: Transfer from the University of North Carolina with three years of eligibility remaining...Set a UNC school record and earned All-America honors with a javelin throw of 175-4 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 1997...Placed third at the 1997 U.S.A. Nationals with a throw of 174-02... Competed in Sicily, Italy, in the World University Games... Finished second at the Pan-Am Junior Games... Won the Penn Relays javelin with a throw of 170-10 as a freshman... Redshirted her sophomore year.

HIGH SCHOOL: Participated in four years of indoor and outdoor track, tennis, basketball and volleyball at Warwick Veterans Memorial High... Also played two years of softball... Two-time All-America winner in the shot put... Ranked number one in the U.S. for the javelin among prep athletes for two years... Won the state javelin title... Three-time All-America honoree in the javelin... Three-time all-state ranking in the indoor shot put... New England shot put and javelin champion for three years in a row... Three-time Gatorade Athlete of the Year... Captain of track, basketball and tennis teams... All-state in tennis for four years... All-state basketball... PERSONAL: Born October 30, 1978... Future aspirations include becoming a stockbroker like her father... Parents are George and Jennifer Carlsten... Father was a three-sport athlete in college at the University of Rhode Island from 1968 to 1972, lettering in football, track and field and baseball; he was also selected in the professional baseball draft out of high school.
