David Blair
Volunteer Asst. Coach

One of the most decorated players in Florida men's tennis history and a fixture in the Gainesville tennis community, David Blair joins the Gator coaching staff for the 2002 season.

Blair teamed with Mark Merklein to win the 1993 NCAA Doubles Championship, the first NCAA crown in the program's history. At the time of his graduation, Blair held the Florida record for career doubles wins (76) and was third all-time in combined victories at UF with his 136. The doubles team of Blair and Merklein joins Jeff Morrison and Nathan Overholser as the only tandems in UF history to record two separate seasons with 20 or more wins. An All-American in 1993 and an All-SEC selection in both 1992 and 1993, Blair was also a member of the 1993 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

After his graduation, Blair pursued a professional tennis career in which he earned a Top 200 world ranking and played in the 1993 U.S. Open. Blair returned to his native Gainesville in 1995 where he and his brother Don bought the former Woodside Racquet Club and renamed it the DB Racquet Club. Blair, who won several state championships in 1986 and 1987 while attending Buchholz High School in Gainesville, has been managing and giving lessons at the club since buying it in 1995.
