Competed in two events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland… Captured her highest career international finish at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, as she placed seventh in the 200 back with a time of 2:10.46… In addition, Russell finished ninth in the 100 back (1:00.37)… Competed at the 2012 Olympics in London for Canada, where she finished eighth in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.86… Broke her own Canadian record in the 200m back at the 2012 Olympic Trials in Montreal with a mark of 2:08.04... Participated in the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, where she set the Canadian record in both the 100 and 200 back… Was a finalist in two events at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi… Was a member of the Pan Pacific and World Championship teams.
NCAA Championships: Russell led the Gators in accolades, as she earned seven All-America honors that began with two individual honors in the 200-yard backstroke (4th, 1:51.65) and 100-yard backstroke (10th, 51.82)… Was a member of five top-10 relays that included four school records as she helped the Gators place 3rd in the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.42 – UF record), fourth in the 400-yard medley relay (3:29.67 – UF record), fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:12.44 – UF record), eighth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:03.83) and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:27.54 – UF record)… SEC Championships: Finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.84), third in the 100-yard backstroke (51.69)… In relays, Russell helped UF place seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.80) and third in three other relay races (200 MR, 400 FR, 800 FR)… Won nine individual events and 15 relays events in dual and invitational competition throughout the regular season… Honors: Seven-time All-American… All-SEC.
NCAA Championships: Posted seven All-America accolades in her first trip to nationals, as she claimed two individual honors and was a member of five All-American relay squads… Individually, Russell placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (51.46) and sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.80)… In relays, she was a member of the school recording-setting 400-yard freestyle relay team that clocked a time of 3:12.96… SEC Championships: Placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.84), third in the 100-yard backstroke (51.95), fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.54)... In addition, Russell was a member of the three relay teams that set new school records including the 400-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay… Named the SEC Female Freshman Swimmer of the Week following her outstanding performance against Florida Atlantic, where she won both the 50-yard freestyle and the100-yard freestyle with times of 23.71 and 50.66 seconds, respectively… Made her UF debut and won her first collegiate race at the All-Florida Invitational, as she won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.19) and the 100-yard backstroke (54.57)… Honors: Seven-time All-American… All-SEC… SEC Freshman Swimmer of the Week.
Prior to Florida: Attended Burlington Central High School… Was member of the Dolphins Swim Club in Oakville.
