Swam at the 2009 U.S. Nationals/World Trials in Indianapolis, Ind., placing 14th in the 400 IM (4:23.47) and 27th in the 200 IM (2:05.02), advancing to finals in both…Qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 fly (2:03.97), the 200 IM (2:05.50) and the 400 IM (4:27.34) … Recorded then career-best times in the 200-meter IM and 400-meter IM at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials … Competed in the 400 IM (4:32.86), 200 IM (2:10.01) and 200 back (2:10.03) at the 2007 ConocoPhillips U.S. Nationals … Was also a Junior Nationals finalist multiple times.

 

At Florida

2010-11: Finished sixth in the 400 IM at the NCAA Championships to earn his first career All-America honor…At the SEC Championships, took third in the 400 IM, sixth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 200 breaststroke…Member of second place 400 medley relay against Indian River State College…Finished first in the 400 IM and took third in the 100 back and 500 free against LSU…Had a fourth place finish in the 200 IM in win over Georgia…Took fourth in the 200 fly and 200 IM against Virginia…Finished fourth in 200 IM  and 400 IM and second in the 400 medley relay at All Florida Invite.

 

2009-10: Finished third in the 200 IM against Auburn…Took third against LSU in the 100 breast…Part of the second-place 400 medley relay squad, while placing third in the 200 back against Indian River State College…Finished second against Florida State in the 200 IM…Placed second in the 400 IM at the Georgia Tech Invitational…Placed third in the 200 fly in the dual-meet victory over Georgia Tech.

 

2008-09: A 2009 CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-American…Additionally named to the 2009 SEC Academic Honor Roll…Represented the Gators at the 2009 SEC Championship meet, where UF finished second…Competed in 12 meets for Florida throughout his sophomore campaign, including the 2008 U.S. Short Course Nationals and the 2009 Florida Swimming Senior Championships…Exhibitioned the 200 IM (1:47.96) and 400 IM (3:49.02) at SECs, setting a new career-best mark in the 200 IM…Also clocked a career-best 200 breast (1:59.57) in Auburn…Set best times in the 500 free (4:27.97), 200 fly (1:47.46) and 400 IM (3:48.99) in Orlando, Fla., at the 2009 Florida Swimming Senior Championships…Took 42nd in the 200 fly (1:51.49) and 52nd (1:53.89) in the 200 IM at the 2008 Short Course Nationals in Atlanta…Also swam a then season-best 3:55.42 in the 400 IM…Highlight of the dual meet season was a career-best mark in the 100 breast (58.27) on the road at Auburn.

 

2007-08: Named to the 2008 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll … Achieved three Olympic Trials cuts his freshman campaign as a Gator … Earned runner-up honors in the 100 breast (58.54) in the victory over FAU … Placed sixth in the 200-meter breast (2:36.73) versus Auburn … Finished fifth in the 100 breast (1:00.21) in the home win over Purdue … Clocked in at 2:31.10 to take fifth in the 200-meter breast at the Alabama Invitational … Touched sixth in the 400 IM (4:03.64) at the Boilermaker Invitational … Placed seventh in both the 200-meter breast (2:33.45) and 200-meter IM (2:13.07) in the victory at Georgia … Finished eighth in the 200-meter breast (2:34.75) against Michigan … Earned a fifth-place finish in the 200 back (1:54.29) in the win over Virginia, his collegiate debut.

 

High School

A two-time New Jersey State Champion in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.11) and 200 yard medley relay (1:51.74) … Was an All-State performer … Led St. Augustine Prep to the New Jersey State Championship three times in four years … Earned All-America status in the 100 back, 200 IM, 200 free, 400 free relay and 200 medley relay … Additionally tabbed a three-time Scholastic All-American … Was an honor student at St. Augustine Prep … Coached by Ryan Sprang in high school.

Born Michael Joyce on August 2, 1989, in Voorhees, New Jersey … Son of Michael and Ruthann Joyce … Has a younger brother, Tommy (17) … Chose Florida because he believes in the coaching staff … Also considered Indiana, Florida State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech in the decision making process … Lists his hobbies outside of swimming as baseball and basketball … Majoring in event management.
