A member of the Venezuelan National Team …Represented Venezuela at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy…Took 55th overall in the 50 free (22.99) and 56th in the 100 free (50.01)…Also competed as a member of the 400 and 800 free relays that both placed 16th at Worlds … Gold medalist in the 100 free at the 2007 CCCAN meet.
2008-09: A 2009 NCAA qualifier his first season as a Gator…Picked up two All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Championship meet in College Station, Texas, as a member of UF’s 200 and 400-yard free relays…200 free relay placed eighth (1:18.05), while the 400 free relay took seventh (2:52.00) …Competed individually in the 50 free (20.08), placing 52nd, and in the 100 free, where he took 28th (43.30) at NCAAs…Took seventh in the 100 free (43.22) and 10th in the 50 free at the SEC meet after setting a career-best 19.85 in prelims…Notched 18th in the 100 fly (48.40) and also swam a pair of relays for the Gators in Auburn at SECs…Swam in a combined 10 dual and invitational meets for Florida his junior season…Represented Florida at the 2009 Dallas Morning News Classic…Placed first in the championship 200 free relay and 400 medley relays, second as a member of the 200 medley relay, second in the 100 free (44.29), eighth in the 100 fly (49.93), 10th in the 50 free (20.74) in Dallas, where the Gators took second at the meet…Rounded out the dual meet season by tapping in fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 50 on the road at Auburn, and notched fourth in the 50 free against his alma mater IRSC.
Prior to Florida
Joined the Gators for the 2008-09 season after swimming two seasons with Indian River State College … Member of the 2007 and 2008 National Championship team in NJCAA … Was additionally a member of the winning 800-meter freestyle, 400-freestyle, and 200- medley relay that now holds a NJCAA record.
Was an individual Florida high school Champion in the 3A Florida State Meet in the 100 free … Graduated in 2005 from Emil Friedman.
Born Roberto Adolfo Gomez Perez on May 5, 1988, in Caracas, Venezuela … Has one sibling, Alejandro Gomez (24) … Mother was an Olympian in 1976, while his brother competed in the Pan American Games in 2007 … Enjoys playing basketball and listening to music in his free time when he’s not training … Chose Florida because of its Engineering School and because of the swimming program … Also considered Arizona State, Arizona and Kentucky in the decision-making process … Majoring in physics and electrical engineering.
