National/International Competition

Finished 32nd in the 400 IM (4:28.55) and 71st in the 200 IM (2:07.22) at the 2010 Long Course U.S. Nationals in Irvine, Calif…Swam at the 2009 U.S. Nationals/World Trials in Indianapolis, Ind., during summer 2009…Took 39th in the 400 IM (4:34.12), a new career-best swim…Recorded a 36th-place finish in the 200 IM (2:08.19) at the 2008 U.S. Open in Minneapolis … Traveled to the Janet Evans Invitational and competed in the 400 free (4:03.10) and 200 IM (2:09.98) … Finished 21st in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.72 at the 2007 Spring Nationals … Competed at the 2006 Spring Junior Nationals in the 100 free (53.54) and 200 free (1:55.92) … Member of the 200 and 400 relays that won gold at the 2006 Summer Junior Nationals.


At Florida

2010-11: Finished first in the 200 IM, was a member of the second place 400-yard medley relay and finished second in the 200 breaststroke against Indian River State College…Placed third in the 400 IM and fifth in the 200 freestyle against Tennessee…Took second in the 200 breast against FAU…Finished seventh in the 100 breast against Georgia Tech…Took third in the 400 IM, fifth in the 500 free, fifth in the 200 breast and tenth in the 200 free at the Big Al Open…Was fifth in the 200 breast against FSU…Placed 15th in the 400 IM, 17th in the 200 breast and 20th in the 200 IM at the Georgia Tech Invite…Finished fifth in the 200 free at LSU…Took third in the 100 back against Georgia…Finished fifth in the 200 breast,  seventh in the 200 free and second in the 400 free relay against Virginia…Took fifth in the 200 breast and eighth in the 200 IM at the All Florida Invite.


2009-10: Placed third in the 200 free in the win over Indian River State College…Part of the third-place team in the 800 free relay at the Georgia Invitational…Finished second in the 400 IM at the South Carolina Invitational…Took second in the 400 IM and fifth in the 200 IM at the Georgia Tech Invitational, while being part of the fourth-place 800 free relay team.


2008-09: A 2009 CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-American…Named to the 2009 SEC Academic Honor Roll…Swam in eight meets for the Gators his sophomore campaign, including the 2008 Princeton Big Al Invitational and the 2009 Florida Swimming Senior Championships…Swam career-best marks in all of his events his sophomore campaign, including an NCAA provisional mark in the 400 IM (3:52.02) at the Florida Swimming Senior Championships in Orlando…Also swam career-bests in the 100 free (45.89), 200 free (1:39.41) and 200 IM (1:49.50) in Orlando…Represented the Gators at the 2008 Princeton Invite, finishing seventh in the 500 free (4:28.53) and 10th in the mile (15:39.65)…Exhibitioned the 200 IM (1:52.35), took fourth in the 400 IM (3:55.03) and 17th in the 100 free (46.71)…Wrapped up the dual meet season with a career-best 50 free swim in the win over Florida Atlantic as the leadoff leg of UF’s 200-yard free relay, while also finishing fifth in the mile against the Owls.


2007-08: Named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll … Touched third in the 1,000 free (9:44.42) versus FAU … Placed seventh in the 50 free (22.77) in the tri-meet win over LSU … Touched 12th in the 400-meter free (4:10.52) at the Alabama Invitational … Touched in for an 11th place finish in the 400 IM (4:05.27) and a 20th place time in the 500 free (4:37.63) at the Boilermaker Invitational … Placed fourth in the 200 IM (1:56.46) and eighth in the 100 free (47.92) in the win at Kentucky … Touched eighth in the 200 free (1:43.43) at Minnesota … Placed seventh in the 50 free (22.71) in his first race as a Gator at Virginia.


High School

Was a 10-time H.S. All-American at The Bolles School … Won the state championship in the 100 free (46.55) his junior year … Broke the high school state record in the 200 free relay (1:40.84) and was second in the 200 free his junior year … The Bolles School has won 19-straight state championships.

Born Alexander Sutton Martin on April 27, 1987 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey … Son of Timothy and Joanne Martin … Has a twin brother, Timothy (22), who is a member of the crew team at Georgia Tech … His father was a member of the crew teams at Syracuse University as an undergrad and the University of Pennsylvania as a graduate student … Chose Florida because of the great opportunities to excel in life … Also considered Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and Southern California in the decision making process … Lists his hobby as playing the electric and acoustic guitar … His future ambition is to work for a record company.
