National/International Competition: Swam on the fourth-place 400-meter freestyle relay team, finishing in 3:26.15 at the 2000 U.S. Open...in 2000 Spanish Nationals, finished fifth in the 100 free with a time of 51.83...won 50-meter free at 1998 Spanish Junior Championships in a personal-best time of 24.19 and was runner-up in 100 free, clocking a time of 52.87...had then-personal-best 50-yard free in December '96 McDonald's Classic, touching in 21.00...at the Spanish Junior Nationals in '97, placed 14th in the 100 free and 18th in the 50 free.

2000-2001: Helped the 400-yard freestyle relay team place second in a dual meet with Tennessee, recording a time of 3:03.32...placed second in the 100-yard freestyle at Miami and at the Florida Atlantic/Indian River tri-meet...was second in the 200-yard freestyle at TCU with a time of 1:44.56...finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle at Auburn with a time of 21.69...was on the first-place 400-yard medley relay team that swam the event in 3:23.52 at Florida State...against Michigan, swam on the first place teams in both the 400-yard medley relay (3:21.78) and the 400-yard free relay (3:04.53)...placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.78 against Michigan...placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (47.69) and sixth in the 200-yard free (1:45.5) at Alabama...was part of the Gators' 400-yard medley relay team at Alabama as well.

1999-2000: Had best meet of his career at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga., posting career best times in the 50- (20.67), 100- (45.62), and 200-yard (1:40.06) freestyle events

1998-99: Placed 26th at SECs in the 200 free preliminaries (1:43.65), 38th in the 100 free (47.28) and 39th in the 50 free (21.52)...during regular season, clocked season-bests in both the 50- (20.88) and 100 free (46.10) against Indian River on February 26...posted season-best performance in the 200 free at the Speedo Cup, touching in 1:42.66...recorded three runner-up finishes on the year, including two in the 100 free and one in the 200 free.

High School: 1998 graduate of Lake Brantley High School...All-American in 100 free, 200 free, and 200 medley relay...won 1997 Florida High School State 6A Championship in 100 free (45.82) and 200 free (1:40.33), after taking fourth (46.72) and third (1:42.51), respectively, in the same events as a junior...also swam leg of champion 200 medley relay (1:36.41) as a senior...led Lake Brantley to the 6A Florida High School state title as a junior...squad captured conference and regional titles in Hernando's final three seasons...swam for Lake Brantley and Patriot Aquatics under coach Clay Parnell.

Personal: Born Jose Luis Hernando on November 17, 1980 in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico...son of Jose and Maria Hernando...enjoys water polo and water-skiing...plans to major in civil engineering.
