Competition:
Swam at 1999 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba...Competed in four events and
took first place in consolation finals of 200 Breast with time of 2:20.25...Represented
Puerto Rico at the 1998 World Championships in Perth, Australia, placing 25th
in the 200 IM, 26th in the 200 breast and 33rd in the 100 breast...finished
23rd in both the 200- and 400 IM and 38th in the 100 breaststroke at the 1997
World Short Course Championships...represented Puerto Rico at the 1996 Olympic
Games, placing 25th in the 400-meter individual medley and 27th in the 200-meter
IM, while also swimming on the 16th-place 400 free relay.
1998-99:
Touched third in the 200 breast at the SEC Championships in a time of 2:01.51...in
the SEC consolation finals, placed eighth in the 200 IM (1:49.39) and ninth
in the 100 fly in a season-best time of 48.62...additionally at conference meet
swam breaststroke legs on the Gators' fourth place 200 medley relay (1:28.95)
and fourth place 400 medley relay (3:15.11)...clocked career-best 200 IM time
of (1:48.47) in winning at the Speedo Cup in December.
1997-98:
Finished 19th at NCAA Championships in the 100 breast with a personal-best time
of 55.26, which ranked fifth on UF's all-time performers' list...also placed
24th in the 200 breast (2:02.89) and 30th in the 200 IM (1:49.52) at NCAAs...won
three All-America honorable mention honors at NCAAs, swimming on the 13th-place
200 medley relay, 14th-place 400 medley relay, and 15th-place 800 free relay...claimed
fourth at the SEC Championships in both the 200 individual medley (1:48.78)
and 200 breast (1:59.31), with his time in the 200 breast ranking third on UF's
all-time performers' list...captured fifth at SECs in the 100 fly in 48.34,
which ranks eighth on UF's all-time list...additionally, swam on the second-place
400 free relay, third-place 200 free relay and fifth-place 200- and 400 medley
relays at SECs.
High School:
1997 graduate of The Bolles School...national independent school prep record
holder in the 200-yard individual medley, with his winning time of 1:47.13 at
the 1996 Florida High School State Championships...also set the Class 4A state
record in winning the 100 free with a time of 44.77...state champion as lead
off of the 200 free relay and anchor of the 400 free relay...led Bolles to the
1996 state title, swimming under current UF head coach Gregg Troy.

Born Arsenio Alexander Lopez on May 3, 1979...son of Norma and Rosario Lopez...member
of National Honors Society at Bolles, where he also played volleyball...enjoys
surfing, watching television and listening to music...majoring in civil engineering.
