Saturday March 26, 2005VB Defeats FAMU, Barry In Spring Matches
The University of Florida volleyball team hosted 2004 NCAA Championship participant Florida A&M and NCAA Division II defending national champion Barry University in a series of matches during the Gators' spring practice season on Saturday at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
The Gators faced FAMU and Barry twice apiece and knocked off both squads by scores of 2-0 on each occasion.
"The spring is about getting better week to week and we're better now than we were two weeks ago," Florida coach Mary Wise said. "Our defensive performances from Rhian Davis and Rachel Engel was very good today and I was pleased.
"From an offensive standpoint, Amber McCray has certainly been a welcome addition after she missed last season. Angie McGinnis' setting to Kisya Killingsworth, Marcie Hampton and Jane Collymore is good right now and they're clicking very well."
The Gators continue spring practice through April 16. The Gators will next travel to Manhattan, Kan. to face 2004 NCAA Championship participants Kansas State and Wichita State in addition to Creighton on Saturday, April 9.
