The Gators made 14 of 16 free throws down the stretch to pull away after taking the lead for good, 58-55 on sophomore forward Mike Miller's three-point basket. Miller finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Freshman forward Donnell Harvey chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds. Udonis Haslem scored 13 points - all but two in the second half. Kenyan Weaks scored all of his 10 points in the second half.
The Gators built a 29-20 first half lead, but the Hoyas closed strong and tied the game up at 33-all at the half.
Kevin Braswell led Georgetown in scoring with 23 points. Anthony Perry had 19.
The Gators will return home to the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on Monday Night to face New Hampshire. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00.
