Friday May 13, 2005Softball Eliminated From SEC Tournament
The Florida Softball team (41-21) was eliminated from the 2005 Southeastern Conference Softball Tournament Friday afternoon. The Gators lost 9-1 to LSU (31-22) in six innings. The Gators stuggled defensively, as they posted a season-high six errors in the game.
LSU scored the first run of the game as they pushed a run across on three consecutive hits with two outs in the top of the fourth. Vanessa Soto started the rally with an infield hit deep between first and second. Heidi Robin entered the game to pinch run for her. Lauren Delahoussaye followed with a second infield base. Robin scored on a Quinlan Duhon base hit to left for a 1-0 lead.
LSU went up 3-0 on a Stephanie Hill homer to center field with two outs in the fifth. The Tigers added four more runs on one hit and three Gator errors to give them a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Camille Harris lead off with an infield base hit. Lauren Castle reached on an error on an intended sacrifice bunt. Both runners scored on Hill two-RBI single up the middle to make the score 9-0 in favor of LSU.
The Gators rallied in the bottom of the sixth. Lindsey Cameron led off with a double to left. After one out, Kristen Butler was hit by a Emily Turner pitch. Mandy Schuerman hit a single through the right side to load the bases. Cameron scored on a Lacy Howard fielder’s choice, but the Gator rally would end there with a 9-1 LSU win.
Turner (17-15) picked up the win for LSU. Florida starter Mandy Schuerman (12-7) was credited with the loss.
