The No. 16 Florida Softball team (24-6, 3-0 SEC) completed the series sweep of Arkansas (10-22, 0-9 SEC) with a 8-0, five-inning win in Fayetteville on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The Gator offense put up 16 hits, tying the school record for most hits in a Southeastern Conference game. It also marked the first time in school history the Gators opened conference play 3-0.

Florida started scoring right away in the top of the first. Lauren Roussell led off the game with a base hit to right field. She advanced to second on a Katy Henry wild pitch. The Lady Back left fielder had a hard time handling the ball, allowing Roussell to score the first Gator run of the game and advancing Cameron to second.

Three straight Gator hits loaded the bases with no outs for Kristen Butler in the top of the third. Butler took the first pitch she was offered out of the park for the first Gator grand slam in 94 games. Lindsey Cameron was the last Gator to hit a grand slam against LSU on May 3, 2003 in Gainesville. Melissa Zick followed with a double to keep the Gator rally going. After a fly out to center field by Savana Kelly, Nikki Baldwin reached on a base hit up the middle and advanced to second as Zick teased the Lady Back defense by rounding third. Zick scored Florida’s fifth run of the inning on a Stacie Pestrak RBI ground out to the short stop. Baldwin advanced to third on the play. Baldwin came in to give Florida a 7-0 lead on a Lindsay Norfleet base hit up the middle. Roussell, Florida’s first batter of the inning made the third out of the inning to end the top of the third just one run short of the mercy rules eight runs.

Four Gator hits and a walk scored the Gators eighth run of the game in the fourth inning as Cameron scored on a Kelly base hit.
