Sunday March 13, 2005Men's Divers Conclude NCAA Zone B Diving Championships
The University of Florida men's diving team closed out the 2005 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships by competing in the 10-meter platform event. The Gators had a strong showing despite not qualifying any more divers for the 2005 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
As the only Gator NCAA Diving Championship qualifier, senior Zach Wilcox (Yarrow Point, Wash.) posted the seventh-best preliminary score of 145.25 in the men's 10-meter platform event. In the finals, Wilcox completed the necessary dives to solidify his spot in the NCAA Championship field by totaling 422.05 points to place 12th.
Sophomore Justin Schmidt (Falcon, Colo.) was the only other Gator diver to compete on the day and he notched a preliminary score of 137.60 to qualify for finals of the 10-meter platform event in 11th-place. In the finals, Schmidt accumulated 425.45 points to finish the event in 10th position.
The No. 3 men's swimming and diving team will return to action on March 24, as they travel to Minneapolis, Minn. for the 2005 Men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota.
