Stacey Stevens Gave up only two hits in Florida's 3-0 win over No. 4 Oklahoma.

The Florida Softball program (6-0) made great strides today as they picked up two more wins in the Clearwater Invitational to earn a spot in Sunday’s championship game. The Gators shutout both Florida Atlantic and Oklahoma 3-0. Florida’s win over Oklahoma is the first win in program history over a team ranked in the top five.

The Gators put runs up on the Sooners in the top of the third inning. Junior Lindsay Norfleet (Madison, Fla.) led off the inning with a double to the center field fence. Sophomore Shelley Stevens (Gainesville, Fla.) laid down a perfect bunt right infront of the plate to move Norfleet to third and put runners on the corners for junior Stacie Pestrak (Gainesville, Fla.). Prestrak laid another bunt infront of the plate, just between the pitcher and catcher to score Norfleet and find herself safe at first. Sophomore Melissa Zick (Tampa, Fla.) drove a double down the left field line to score Stevens and Pestrak and put the Gators up 3-0. Before that inning the Gators had only ever been able to score one run against Oklahoma.

Florida pitcher sophomore Stacey Stevens (Gainesville, Fla.) gave up only two hits in the win. She struck out five Sooner batters on her way to her second win of the season.

Florida defeated Florida Atlantic 3-0 in the first game of the day. Senior pitcher Mandy Schuerman (Riverview, Fla.) gave up only one hit in the game, the second one hitter of her career.

All the scoring happened in the sixth inning. Norfleet led off the inning with a double to right center field. Shelley Stevens beat out throw on an attempted sacrifice for a hit to put runners at first and third. Stevens stole second. The Gators put their first runs on the board on a two-run base hit by Zick. Zick advanced all the way to third as the FAU defense tried to catch the Florida runners. Junior Lindsey Cameron (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) knocked in Zick with a double to left center to give the Gators the 3-0 lead.

Schuerman struck out four batters in the win and gave up no walks. Zick’s RBI were her sixth and seventh of the season.

Florida will face UCF in Sunday’s championship game at 11 a.m. The game will air live on www.gatorzone.com via yahoo.com.
