Friday November 5, 2004Chatman Leads VB Past Wildcats
Senior Michelle Chatman (Woodridge, Ill.) finished with 9 kills, five total blocks and a team-high 14 points as No. 8 Florida defeated Kentucky 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-18) on Friday evening in front of a crowd of 2,219 at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Florida (21-2 overall, 13-0 SEC), which won its 119th consecutive overall match against SEC opponents and defeated an inter-conference opponent for the 107th straight time at home, dominated the Wildcats (12-12, 3-10) across the board. UF finished with more kills (50), assists (46), digs (54) and blocks (16) than UK and limited Kentucky to a .058 percentage on their attacks.
"It was good to see us hit the ball to Kisya Killingsworth," Florida coach Mary Wise said. "Kisya got us three blocks, and if we can get one block out of her per game, we can be very productive."
Junior Jane Collymore (Englewood, Colo.) also finished with a noteworthy performance for the Gators as she recorded her 14th double-double performance on the season with a team-high 10 kills and 10 digs. Freshman middle blocker Kisya Killingsworth (Deltona, Fla.) matched her career high in kills with nine, including five in the first game to get the Gators off to a fresh start.
Florida returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 10, as the Gators face Georgia in a home match-up, which is scheduled to appear on GatorVision Online. The match will also be carried live on radio by WRUF-AM 850, and can be heard at www.GatorZone.com with first serve set for 7 p.m.
