Michelle Diaz went 2-for-2 in Florida's loss to LSU.

The Florida softball team lost the first game of its series with LSU Saturday in Baton Rouge. With the win LSU secured the Southeastern Conference title. The game lasted only 4.5 innings due to severe storms in the area. The second game of Saturday’s doubleheader will be played on Sunday.

LSU scored all its runs in the bottom of the second. Julie Wiese led off the inning with a base hit. Catcher Leigh Ann Danos followed with another base hit to deep into left. Wiese attempted to advance to third but was thrown out by Florida left fielder Lindsey Cameron. Danos advanced to second on the play. Lauren Uhle came in to pinch run for Danos at second and advanced on a Sara Fitzgerald base hit to left putting runners at first and third with one out in the inning. Uhle scored the Tigers first run on a base hit by Camille Harris. Senior Amanda Moore came in the game to relieve Florida starter Amanda Knowles in the pitching circle. LaDonia Hughes drew a walk to load the bases. Lauren Castle hit a bases clearing single to center field to put LSU up 4-0.

Freshman catcher Michelle Diaz recorded Florida’s first hit of the game in the top of the third with a single to right field. The Gators added hits in the fourth and fifth innings, but could not get a runner beyond second base.

Kristen Butler had a base hit down the left field line in the fourth inning to extend her hit streak to four games. Diaz was 2-for-2 on the day with two base hits to right field, one in third and one in the fifth.
