Sunday February 29, 2004Softball Wins Cox Communications Classic
The Florida softball team (17-2) won the Cox Communications Classic with a 1-0 win over Gardener-Webb in the final game of the round robin tournament. In addition to going undefeated in the tournament, the Gators gave up only one run in the five games.
Florida scored its run in the third frame. Jenilee Garner led off the inning with a double to center field. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored as Bulldog catcher Christie Barlow threw the ball to first on a dropped third strike to Melissa Zick.
Amanda Moore started the game and earned the win for Florida. Her record improves to 2-0 on the season. Amanda Knowles came in the game in relief in the sixth inning for her second save of the season. She struck out four of the six batters she faced.
Florida begins conference play on Saturday against Kentucky. Gator fans can celebrate Amanda Moore Day and receive a puzzle of the Gator senior. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the Florida Softball Stadium
