University of Florida junior Candice Scott claimed the sixth Southeastern Conference title of her career Saturday with a win in the weight throw at the SEC Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky. Scott helped the women's track and field team move into second place with 36 points. The Gator men's team is in fourth with 18 points.

Novlene Williams set the school record in the 400m dash with her third-place time of 51.88 in the preliminaries of the event. She broke teammate Tiandra Ponteen's record, which she set two weeks ago at the Tyson Invitational. Ponteen also qualified for the finals with a fifth-place time of 52.54. Amber Hickman also competed in the event, finishing 24th in 57.57.

"I think we're in pretty good shape. We've just got to get it done tomorrow," said UF Women's Head Coach Tom Jones. "We know where our quality points are, and we've got to go out and get them. On the whole, I'm pretty pleased. We're still in the hunt, and I'm proud of what our team did today."

Ryan McIntyre got the Gator men on the board with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 18.09m/59-4.25, moving into seventh place in UF history. "Coming into the day, I had some ideas of who we wanted to get into the finals, and I think we probably qualified 98 percent of the people we sent to the line," said Florida Men's Head Coach Mike Holloway. "We're in great position, and we've got to come out and finish it. We cannot come out tomorrow and look at it as we've won the meet. We've put ourselves into position to win the meet. Now tomorrow we've got to come out and win it. We've won nothing. Arkansas is a great program, and they have a great tradition. They're going to come out and fight tomorrow, and we've got to be ready to fight with them."
