The Florida softball team extended its record to 15-2 on the season with a 7-0 shut out of Connecticut in the Cox Communications Classic. Four players had multiple hits as Florida tallied 12 hits in the win for the Gators fifth double-digit hit game of the season
Lauren Roussell got the Gators started in the bottom of the third with a solo home run just inside the left field foul pole to put Florida up 1-0. Lindsey Cameron started a two-out Gator rally in the same inning with a line drive up the middle. She scored from first on a Melissa Zick base hit that hit the center field fence. Zick scored on Lacy Howardís two-base shot through the left side. Howard advanced to third on UConnís throw home to try to throw out Zick. Lindsay Norfleet hit a gapper between short stop and third to score Howard. Michelle Diaz and Jenilee Garner both walked to load the bases, but the Huskies made the final out to leave three runners on base.
With one out in the Gator half of the fourth, Mylin Prieto started the Gators with a base hit. Nikki Baldwin came in the game to run for her. Cameron followed with a double to left center field. Zick walked to load the bases. Howard scored Baldwin from third on a single to right center to put Florida up 5-0.
Garner led off the fifth frame with a base hit. Andrea Magura pinch hit for Mandy Schuerman at the top of the order and walked. Garner and Magura both advanced with some crafty base running on a Lauren Roussell pop up to the third baseman. Cameronís third hit of the day was a two-RBI double to put Florida up 7-0.
Stacey Stevens earned the win for the Gators, improving her record to 5-0 on the season. She struck out 12 Husky batters and only gave up two hits.
