Senior Jordan Code jumped from 106th to 33rd in the second round of the NCAAs.

The No. 2 University of Florida men's golf team jumped up three spots to a tie for fourth place after the second day of competition at the 2003 NCAA Championships. The Gators shot a second round 300 (+12) Wednesday at Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Okla. to tally a two-round total of 602 (+26). UF, who is tied with Southeastern Conference rival Auburn, is only four shots back of tournament leader UCLA, who is at 22-over-par with a 598.

"We played pretty good for the second day in a row,"Gator Head Coach Buddy Alexander said. "We're right there in the thick of the hunt, so we will have to keep playing well if we want to win it."

Three Gator golfers are tied for 24th place at 151 (+7). Freshman James Vargas (Miami, Fla.) jumped 20 spots from the first to second round, as he shot a 75 (+3) Wednesday to finish at 151. Fellow freshman Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) shot a second round 78 (+6) to equal Vargas' two-round total. Junior Camilo Villegas (Medellin, Colombia) is also in 24th at seven-over. Villegas had a rough second round, as he shot a seven-over 79.

The biggest jump of the day came from senior Jordan Code (Tampa, Fla.), who turned in the best round of the day with a -1 (71) to finish the afternoon tied for 33rd at 152 (+8). Code, who eagled the par-five 18th hole in the second round, entered Wednesday tied for 106th after a first round 81 (+9).

Freshman Brett Stegmaier (Madison, Conn.) is in a tie for 97th at +15 (159). After shooting an 11-over in the first round, Stegmaier, the 2003 Southeastern Conference champion, regrouped to shoot a four-over 76 in the second round.

The third round of the NCAA Championships will begin Thursday at 9 a.m.
