The Florida softball team (40-23) battled hard, but came out on the losing end of the SEC semifinal Game vs. LSU Sunday morning in Plant City, Fla. The Gators tallied six hits in the game, but scattered then throughout the seven innings and were not able to string enough together for the win.
LSU scored the first run of the game as LaDonia Hughes crossed the plate on a Christy Connor base hit deep down the left field line. The hit gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead and left runners on first and second with no outs in the inning. Florida starter Jenny Gladding walked the bases loaded. She struck the next batter out looking on a full count. Tessa Lynam hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score LSUís second run, but the ball was dropped allowing the bases to stay loaded with only one out in the inning. Jennifer Mossadeghi threw Christy Connor out at home on a Blair Smith fielderís choice play to prevent another run and Gladding struck out the final batter of the inning to hold the Tigers to a 2-0 lead.
Lindsey Cameron brought the Gators within one with a two out homer down the left field line in the top of the second. Kristen Butler brought the Gators fourth hit of the day on a double following Cameronís home run, but she did not come in as Marchetta grounded out to first base.
An intentional walk in the bottom of the fifth loaded the bases for Alicia Owen to hit a bloop single to shallow centerfield for the 3-1 Tiger lead. The bases remained loaded with only one out in the inning, but Gladding struck out the remaining two batters to end the inning without any further damage.
Gladding (22-13) struck out seven batters in the loss. Kristen Schmidt earned the win for LSU.
The Gators will head back to Gainesville to wait for the NCAA Tournament field to be announced tonight at 10 p.m.
