WT&F Wins Three Events at Seminole Twilight
Led by a near-school record in the outdoor shot put, the University of Florida women’s track and field team tallied three wins in five field events at the Seminole Twilight meet Saturday. Karen Freberg threw a personal-best 55-6.25 in the shot put to win the event and move into second-place all-time in school history.
The Gators began the day with three personal bests in the hammer throw, including five-foot personal bests from Jukina Dickerson and Erin Gilreath. Dickerson won the event with a throw of 215-5, followed by Candice Scott in second with a mark of 212-7 and Gilreath in third at 209- 8. Kim Barrett rounded out the top four for the Gators in fourth place with a personal-best mark of 191-0.
One of the biggest highlights of the day was Freberg’s win in the shot put, as the redshirt freshman won with a mark of 55-6.25, which is a personal best and is good for second in UF history. She led a Gator sweep of the top eight spots, as Barrett finished second at 52-1.25 and DeBartolo placed third with a season-best of 51-7.
Another big personal-best propelled a Gator to victory in the discus, as Dore DeBartolo’s throw of 176-1 in the event was a personal- best by seven feet. Rachel Longfors finished third (166-9), with Barrett in fourth (152-3), Freberg in fifth (150-10) and Dickerson in sixth (137- 5). In the pole vault, Dara Altman was Florida’s top finisher in second place with a vault of 12-6. Chandra Lacombe cleared 12-00 to finish in third, while Amy Carr finished fifth (11-6.25) and Jennifer LaPorte placed sixth (11-0.25). DeBartolo ended the night for the Gators with a third- place finish in the javelin, reaching 119-1.
Florida travels to Knoxville, Tenn., this week for the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 15-18.
