Sunday April 6, 2003Softball Defeats Georgia 1-0 to Win Series
No. 24 Florida (31-11, 12-3 SEC) had four hits on the day, but all they needed was one to win the series with No. 8 Georgia (39-7, 14-4 SEC) in Athens, two games to one. Florida won the final game of the series 1-0, behind excellent pitching by junior Jenny Gladding.
Florida scored its run in the top of the third. Freshman left fielder Lindsey Cameron grabbed the first pitch of the inning for a home run right inside the left field foul pole.
Gladding had an outstanding outing for the Gators. She struck out eight Bulldogs batters and shut down the top of Georgia’s line up. She only allowed one hit through the final five innings.
Cameron was 2-for-3 for the day with a double and the game-winning home run.
Prior to this weekend Georgia had only lost one game at home. Florida is now 18-9 on the road and 5-5 against ranked teams this season.
The Gators return home for a three-game series with No. 18 Alabama on Tuesday and Wednesday. Games begin at 5 p.m. both days.
