Gainesville, FL

Pat Rumble earned his first career victory in the Gators win.

The University of Florida baseball team (23-6-1, 5-3-1 SEC) scored 12 runs in the first four innings and earned their sixth straight victory 14-2 over Florida A&M. It was the second meeting of the season for the two teams as the Gators won the first game 17-2.

Florida exploded for 15 hits as Brett Dowdy went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Mario Garza was 2-for-4 with four RBI.

The two teams traded runs in the first before Florida took the lead for good in the second as Brian Rose hit his fourth homer of the season, a solo shot to left center. The homer gave UF a 2-1 lead and the Florida bats would never quiet.

Dowdy led off the Florida first with a double and advanced to third on a groundout before C.J. Smith picked up an RBI with his groundout. The hit in the first for Dowdy extended his hit streak to 12 games.

The Gators would add four more runs in the second as Stephen Barton reached on an error and Justin Tordi had a bunt single. After a pair of outs, Garza knocked in two with a shot up the middle. After Ben Harrison was hit by a pitch, Jeff Corsaletti drew a bases loaded RBI walk. The scoring barrage ended as Rose had his second hit on the inning which scored the final run of the second.

In the five-run third back-to-back singles from Dowdy and Jonathan Tucker set the table for the middle of the Florida order. Smith singled in a run and that was followed by a two-RBI single through the right side by Garza. Harrison later walked and promptly came home as his free pass was followed by a two-run homer from Corsaletti.

Florida tacked on two additional runs in the seventh. Garza and Jake Riordan both walked putting two runners on. Joe Mercadante then hit an RBI single that scored Garza and Riordan later came across on an errant throw.

The second pitcher of the contest Pat Rumble picked up the win for the Gators as he threw 2.0 innings and gave up just a single hit with a strikeout. It was the first career decision for Rumble.
