Friday March 14, 2003Diving Teams Compete At First Day Of Diving Zones
University of Florida men's diver Zach Wilcox (Yarrow Point, Wash.), qualified for the 2003 NCAA Championships in the one-meter springboard diving competition Friday night at the NCAA Diving Zones in Auburn, Ala. Wilcox was one of two Gator divers to place in the top-15 of their respective events at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
Wilcox finished fifth out of 31 divers in the men's one-meter springboard competition. Wilcox, who won the 2003 Southeastern Conference title in the one-meter last month at the Martin Aquatics Center, finished with a score of 650.00. He just missed placing fourth by a little more than a point, as Tennessee's Phil Jones finished one spot ahead with a total of 651.15. Freshman Chris Comfort (Coral Springs, Fla.) was the other Gator diver to compete for the men, as he finished in 21st with a score of 254.85.
On the women's side, Florida was led by junior Nicole Bolt (Orlando, Fla.), as she placed 15th out of 41 divers in the three-meter springboard with a total score of 448.65. Joining Bolt was freshman Jessica Ranieri (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), who placed 21st with a score of 257.00. Junior Kristen Connor (Gainesville, Fla.) followed Ranieri in two spots, as she placed 23rd with a score of 253.75.
The second day of the three day competition will begin Saturday, March 15, at 10 a.m. with the finals of the women's one-meter springboard. The men will follow at 3:30 p.m. with the finals of the three-meter. The event will conclude Sunday with the finals of the women's platform at 10 a.m. and the men's platform at 12:30 p.m.
