Friday March 7, 2003Swimmers Compete At All-American Invitational
Six University of Florida men's swimmers placed in the top-10 at the All-American Invitational at the Jamail Aquatics Center Friday night at the University of Texas in Austin.
Freshman Nick Borreca (Honolulu, Hawaii) and sophomore Justin Zumsteg (Rochester, Mich.) finished second and third in the 100-yard butterfly. Borreca finished with a time of 50.55, while Zumsteg followed in a time of 50.62.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, two Gator swimmers finished in the top-10, as sophomore Corey Welch (Larksville, Pa.) and senior Ian Chadsey (Reston, Va.) finished fifth and seventh respectively. Welch finished in a time of 55.68, which was good enough to qualify for a NCAA provisional mark, while Chadsey recorded a time of 56.04.
Freshman Mac Warren (North Palm Beach, Fla.) finished seventh in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 3:57.91. Fellow freshman Elliot Meena (Orlando, Fla.) finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.51.
The All-American Invitational will continue Saturday at the Jamail Aquatics Center. The event will go on the entire day. The final day of competition will be Sunday, March 9.
