Robin Fulton scored the first goal in the Gators' 3-0 win Friday at Vanderbilt.

The University of Florida soccer team (4-6-1, 1-1 SEC) opened the month of October with a 3-0 win at Vanderbilt (2-6, 0-2) Friday evening in front of a Vanderbilt Soccer Field crowd of 255.

Florida took a 1-0 lead into halftime after junior Robin Fulton hit her first goal of the season at 30:53. Fulton took the ball down the left side of the field and VUís goalkeeper Esther Thompson came out to end the cross.

"I made a run for the goal and the keeper came out on me. I slipped the ball to the middle to Vuk (Stephanie Vukovich). It hit off a defender and came right back to me. The goalie was already out of the goal so I kicked it in," Fulton said.

Junior Megan McMillan gave the Gators a 2-0 lead at 56:05 when she pounced on a rebound that kicked back eight yards into the box. McMillan one-touched the ball into the upper right corner for her second goal of the year. The Gatorsí final goal came when Danielle Murphy successfully hit a penalty kick at 76:57. The penalty kick was awarded when VU fouled Fulton while she was fouled in the box as she headed toward the goal.

The Gators were without two regular starters Friday, as forward Crystal Frimpong was out with a sprained right ankle and forward Christine Johnson did not make the trip due to a gastrointestinal infection.

"Under the circumstances (with two starters out), we were certainly happy to get the win and the shutout. I thought that Robin Fulton really stepped up and created some problems for the Vanderbilt defense. She was pretty aggressive Ė she scored a goal and she created a penalty kick," UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh said. "We used a lot of people tonight. Hopefully the experience they gained while some of our starters are out will pay off in the long run."

Florida goalkeeper Jordan Kellgren turned in a season-high eight saves Friday to earn her third shutout of the season. VUís Esther Thompson turned in four saves. For the match, VU outshot the Gators 18-9.

Next up, the Gators head to Lexington, Ky., to meet Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 6. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. Audio of Sundayís match can be heard live on
