The preseason No. 13 ranked University of Florida soccer team defeated Jacksonville University 7-0 Friday evening in an exhibition match played at the UF Practice Field.
The match was contested as three 30-minute periods. Florida jumped out to an early lead just four minutes into the match with a goal from senior Kara Rao. Junior Robin Fulton contributed the next three consecutive goals, scoring in the 11th, 13th and 27th minute. In the second period, junior Megan McMillan turned in the only goal in the 55th minute with Monica Hoyles getting the assist. Florida scored twice in the final period. Junior Crystal Frimpong took the ball down the field 35 yards to score of an unassisted 10-yard shot in the 66th minute. Freshman Jamie Garside turned in UF’s final goal in the 85th minute.
Florida opens the 2002 season on the road next weekend. The Gators meet No. 18 Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Friday, Aug. 30. UF then meets Cincinnati on Sunday, Sept. 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
