GAINESVILLE, FLA- The University of Florida softball team (17-21) extended its winning streak to three games with a 2-0 victory over No. 25 Wisconsin (16-8) Saturday afternoon in front of 405 at Florida Softball Stadium in the Gator Invitational. The win is the Gators' fifth victory over a ranked team this season.
Amanda Moore (7-8) pitched a complete game for Florida, allowing four hits for her seventh win of the season. Mylin Prieto and Jenilee Garner each went 1-for-3 with one RBI for Florida.
Florida scored each of its runs in the first and fifth inning. Prieto's double to the wall in right-center field in the first inning off Wisconsin pitcher Andrea Kirchberg (9-7) scored Garner from second base for the game-winning run.
Garner's bloop single over Wisconsin shortstop Kristin Zacher scored Prissie Walden from third base for Florida's final run in the fifth inning.
Florida played flawless defense for the second consecutive day, surrendering no errors. Florida turned a 5-2-3 double play to end Wisconsin's bases loaded threat in the second inning and preserve the Gator lead.
Katy Berger made a running catch deep in right field for Florida's first out in the seventh inning.
Florida earned the #1 seed in the Gator Invitational and takes on 4th-seeded Maine at 4 p.m. Saturday to open up seeding play in the Gator Invitational. Wisconsin and Samford square off at 7 p.m.
