Wednesday March 20, 2002Errors Plague Softball in Losses
Errors plagued Florida (14-20, 2-6) as they lost two games to No. 17 Alabama (22-11, 6-2) Tuesday night in Tuscaloosa. The Gators had a great night hitting, but three error in game one and four in game two proved to be their doom as they lost the first game 4-3 and the second 8-3. Florida's losing streak on the road now stands at eight games.
Florida lost a heartbreaker game in game one of a doubleheader. The Gators were up 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Alabama had a three-run seventh inning to win the game 4-3.
Jenilee Garner scored on a error by Tide secondbaseman Suzanne Olcott in the top of the third inning. Alabama tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Jackie Wilkins scored on a single up the middle by Ashley Courtney.

Jennifer Wright hit a ball straight at Schuerman which bounced off her foot and into Jackie Marchetta's glove. It was questionable as to whether or not the ball hit the ground before hitting Schuerman's foot, but the batter was safe and the tying run scored. Alabama won the game on a sacrifice foul fly by Leah White. Only one of the three runs was earned due to an earlier Florida error.
Schuerman took the loss for Florida. Her record is now 3-6. Shelley Laird earned the win for Alabama, moving her record to 11-6
Florida rallied with two outs in the top of the second inning to take an early lead in game two. Jenn Mossadeghi hit a triple to right center field to score Garner. The triple was only the second this season for Florida. Mossadeghi scored on a Katy Berger single to lift Florida 2-0 over the Tide.
