Sunday March 10, 2002Softball Swept By LSU With 4-0 Loss Sunday
Florida softball lost their third consecutive SEC game and sixth consecutive game overall with a 4-0 shutout loss to the LSU Tigers today at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La. The 0-3 start is Florida's worst SEC start in the six-year history of the program.
LSU scored its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Erin Johnson led off the inning with a walk. Sara Fitzgerald reached on a fielder's choice and Johnson was safe on the play. Leigh Ann Danos hit a two RBI double to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Jennie Reeves scored another run on a Julie Wiese single to left field.
The Tigers added another run on two hits and a Gator error in the sixth inning.
Florida had two hits in the game and left five batters stranded. Starter Mandy Schuerman received the loss for Florida. Her record moves to 2-4 on the season. Britni Sneed got the win for the Tigers. Her record is 8-4.
After 15 games on the road, the Gators return to the friendly confines of the Florida Softball Stadium for their SEC home opener against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday March 16. The doubleheader begins at 12 p.m.
