Tuesday October 13, 1998Florida Soccer Team Defeats Florida State
Tallahassee, FL
Tallahassee, FL
Junior Heather Mitts put the Gators on the scoreboard in the 29th minute, placing her 30-yard free kick in the back of the net. Tuesdays goal was the first of the season for Mitts.
The Gators didnt get the insurance goal until the 89th minute when senior All-American Erin Baxter hit a short shot in the thick of traffic in front of the net. Seniors Melissa Pini and Adrianne Moreira were both credited with the assist on Baxters goal.
"We just have to look at this as a learning experience," Baxter said. "We knew they would come out playing hard. We came out hard also, but we just couldnt put the ball away. It is alway good to get that security goal, no matter when it comes."
For the match, the Gators outshot the Lady Seminoles 21-2, with the Gators holding FSU to no shots in the second half. Senior Meredith Flaherty recorded one save in goal for UF, while FSU goal keeper Jamie Gurtov posted eight saves for the match.
Next up, the Gators return home to play host to Mississippi State on Friday, Oct. 16. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Percy Beard Stadium and admission is free.
