Florida softball's record dropped below .500 with two losses the midweek doubleheader at Cal State Fullerton. Florida stands at 12-14 going into Southeastern Conference play.
The Gators started the scoring in the top of the third inning in game two. Andrea Zimbardi, Mandy Schuerman and Mylin Prieto all walked to load the bases. Zimbardi and Schuerman scored on a Katy Berger single on the ground to left center field to give Florida a 2-0 lead.
The Titans narrowed the gap to 2-1 on a leadoff homer down the left field line by Gina Oaks in the bottom of the third. They took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Amanda Hockett hit a two RBI double to score Jenny Topping and Jodie Cox. That is where game two would end.
Amanda Knowles took the loss for Florida.
Florida lost the first game 11-1 in four and a half innings by the eight-run mercy rule.
Cal State Fullerton took an early 7-0 lead in game one. They scored seven runs on five hits, three walks, a hit batter and one error in the bottom of the first. The other four runs came in the third inning on three hits, two walks, a hit batter and an error.
Florida scored its one run in the top of the third. With two outs, Jackie Marchetta was hit by a pitch and scored on a Prieto RBI double deep into right center field.
Amanda Moore took the loss for the Gators. Gina Oaks pitched a complete game win for the Titans.
Florida begins Southeastern Conference play against LSU in Baton Rouge with a double header at 12 p.m. eastern time on Saturday.
