Junior Sarah Yohes first goal of the 1998 season was the game-winner for UF, scoring off a low volley from Melissa Pinis cross. Florida senior All-American Danielle Fotopoulos scored the games first goal, hitting an eight-yard shot off the assist from senior Adrianne Moreira at 4:42. Georgias Stephanie Yarem had a nine-yard header at 49:21 to tie the match in the second half.
Florida goalkeeper Meredith Flaherty had three saves in earning the win. Georgias Nicole Williams tallied seven saves. The win was Floridas third overtime victory of the year and marked the second time in the five-match UF-UGA series that the game was extended beyond regulation. The first UF-UGA match in 1995 ended in a 0-0 tie.
Next up, the Gators play host to No. 14 Hartford on Saturday, Sept. 19. Match time is set for 4 p.m. at the Percy Beard Stadium and admission is free.
