Florida used a three-run sixth inning to defeat No.9 Washington 3-2 to
secure the No.1 seed in the UF Hotel and Conference Center Invitational
Saturday afternoon at Florida Softball Stadium in front of 500 fans.
Florida improves to 6-4.
Florida pitcher Mandy Schuerman (1-2) earned her first win of the season,
and Washington's Tia Bollinger (1-2) received the loss.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs and no one on
base, Florida began their rally. Mylin Prieto's single advanced pinch
runner Jessie Franklin to second. Jennifer Mossadeghi then smashed a
double down the left-field line to bring Franklin in for Florida's first
run. The following at-bat, Prissie Walden brought in both Mossadeghi and
Franklin on a single to center field.
Amanda Knowles replaced Schuerman in the top of the seventh and pitched a
1-2-3 inning, striking out two. Knowles struck out Jamie Clark swinging to
end the game.
Washington (13-2) scored both of their runs in the fourth inning off
Florida starting pitcher Amanda Moore. Kathy Fiske's single to center
field brought in both runs.
Mossadeghi finished 2-for-3 for the Gators with two doubles, a RBI and a
run. Prieto was 2-for-2 with a run.
