Friday February 15, 2002Florida Swimmers Finish Day Two at Southern States
The University of Florida men's and women's swimming team finished Day Two of competition at Southern States, hosted by the University of North Florida. The Gators will not participate in team scoring during the three-day event
The Gators started with the 200-yard medley relay, turning in a time of 1:34.80. The 400-yard individual medley followed, with Matt Yacco setting a meet mark with his time 4:02.75. Steve Friedlander and Bernie Guenther also swam the 400-yad IM, clocking in at 4:06.30 and 4:10.38, respectively.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Oliver Heinricher finished in 1:41.02, while Jesus Dominguez touched the wall in 1:42.28. UF's Katie McCown finished the women's 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.60. In the men's 100-yard breastroke, Corey Welch recorded a time of 56.45, while Will Ratliff clocked in at 57.17.
Jonathan Strauss closed out UF's participation in Day Two with his time of 52.63 in the 100-yard backstroke.
Competition at Southern States commences Saturday. The Gators then travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Southeastern Conference Championships.
