Stetson rode a 7.0 inning pitching performance from starter Roger Lincoln as the Hatters won a 6-3 decision against Florida Saturday at Mark Light Stadium. The loss ends Florida’s season at 35-27.
Stetson (43-16) advances to play in the championship round against Miami at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Hatters need to defeat Miami two times to advance to NCAA Super Regional action.
Roger Lincoln (6-0) pitched 7.2 innings and allowed six hits, three runs (one earned). He walked five and struck out four batters. Andy Wilson pitched the final 1.1 innings for his 10th save of the year.
Florida jumped out to a 2-0 second inning lead when Jason Dill reached base on an error and advance to third on a throwing error. Peter Nystrom drove him in on a RBI single and Nystrom scored on Pat Osborn’s RBI groundout.
Stetson battled back to take a 3-2 lead in the second taking advantage of Andy Wilson RBI single, wild pitch, fielding error and Jeff Christy’s RBI groundout. The Gators tied it up at 3-3 on when Matt Goss’ single drove home Brian Rose from third.
Stetson took a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning on a two-RBI double from Bryan Zenchyk following Jeff Christy’s leadoff single and an intentional walk to Frank Corr. Stetson went up 6-3 in the eighth.
Gator reliever Joey Simon (7-6) suffered the loss after pitching 4.0 innings.
Florida was led by Peter Nystrom’s career-high four hit performance. He finished 4-4 with a RBI and run.
The game began at 9:19 and was delayed for an hour and 44 minutes due to heavy rain.
*Peter Nystrom finished with a career-high tying four hits and stole a career-high two bases tonight. He finished hitting .800 (8-10) with four RBI in the NCAA Regional.
*Keith Brice hit three batters tonight, a total that tied a season-high for a UF pitcher.
