No. 8 Florida meets Baylor Saturday at 7 p.m. for its second exhibition match of the season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 8 Florida soccer meets Baylor Saturday for its second and final exhibition match of the season. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium and admission is free.

 

The Gators in Thursday’s Exhibition:

The Gators took a 5-2 win over Florida International Thursday in a rain-delayed exhibition at Pressly Stadium. The match was played in three periods with minutes of 45-30-20.

 

Five different Gators scored Thursday, with the first coming from sophomore transfer Betsy Middleton to tie the match in the 33rd minute. Junior Brooke Smith scored the go-ahead goal in the 36th minute. Pamela Begić scored in the 41st minute.

 

Florida’s last two goals came in the final period. Senior Jillian Graff pushed the lead to 4-2 and sophomore Brooke Sharp headed in a Brooke Smith corner kick for the Gators’ final goal.

 

Jordan with U.S. U-20 Team

Sophomore Savannah Jordan is with the U.S. Under-20 National Team at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada. She started the U.S.’s group-play matches versus Germany (2-0 loss) and China (3-0 win). The U.S. advances to the quarterfinal round and meets Korea DPR on Aug. 16. The match airs live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. ET.

 

About Baylor:

Saturday’s match is Baylor’s second exhibition of this preseason. The Bears defeated Sam Houston State 1-0 in Aug. 12 home action off the second-half goal from senior Alexa Wilde.

 

In 2013, Baylor posted an 11-6-3 record, missing the NCAA Championships after advancing to the 64-team field in 2011 and 2012.

 

BU returns 16 players from the 2013 roster and welcomes seven newcomers for 2014. Among the returnees are 2013 first-team All-Big 12 junior forward Bri Campos and senior goalkeeper Michelle Kloss, who ranked 20th in the NCAA in 2013 goals against average (0.65) and tied for 67th in save percentage (.817).

Preseason Conference Votes:

Florida shared the 2013 Southeastern Conference title with Texas A&M as each team posted 9-2 league records. Baylor tied for fourth in Big 12 Conference action with its 3-4-1 league record.

Florida – The Gators are picked to win the Southeastern Conference.

Baylor – The Bears are picked to finish fourth in Big 12 Conference play in 2014. West Virginia is the preseason pick to win the Big 12.

 

Rankings:

Florida is ranked No. 8 on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.

 

Season Opener:

Soccer is the first Florida team competing this season, as the Gators open the 2014 season on Friday, Aug. 22 when Miami comes to Pressly Stadium for a 7 p.m. match. Florida continues home action on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. against South Florida. That match will be played at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Admission is free for all Gator home regular-season action.
