Gainesville, Fla.

The 2014-15 women's tennis schedule has been announced.

The University of Florida women’s tennis schedule for the 2014-15 boasts early season matches versus one semifinalist and two quarterfinalists from last year’s national championship draw. Falling to the eventual NCAA champion UCLA Bruins in the semifinals in 2014, the Gators enter the new season with a hunger for victory, not to mention the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class.

The women’s team will spend the entire fall season on the road, opening its autumn schedule in Durham, North Carolina, for the Duke Invitational on Friday, Sept. 12. UF travels to the West coast for the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament (Sept. 27-Oct. 5) in Pacific Palisades, California, and returns to the East coast for the remainder of the fall slate. They close with the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, (Nov. 7-9).

Gator fans can look forward to an action-packed month of February, when the Orange and Blue hosts Duke, Stanford and Alabama. The Blue Devils and the Crimson Tide advanced to the quarterfinals of the national championship last year, while the Cardinal made it one step further to the semifinal round. The Gators host defending Southeastern Conference Tournament Champion Georgia on Friday, Apr. 10 and conclude the regular season at the Ring Tennis Complex against Tennessee on Sunday, Apr. 12.

Florida was 12-0 at home in 2013-14 and extended its overall program-record home winning streak to 133, which includes 22 wins in postseason play (SEC and NCAA Tournament). The streak is the longest active home win streak of any NCAA Division I women’s team, in any sport. The streak is the second-longest active home win streak on any NCAA Division I team, trailing only the NCAA-record run by the Ohio State men’s tennis team of 191.

Head coach Roland Thornqvist prepared a 2014-15 slate that will challenge his squad throughout the entire season, particularly on their home court.

“This is another loaded schedule where our team will be tested from start to finish. I’m especially excited about who we have at home, and with a team as young as this one, it may prove decisive to play on our own courts.”

The SEC Tournament opens on Wednesday, Apr. 15 in Columbia, South Carolina, with the final round to be played on Sunday. The NCAA Team First & Second Rounds kick off on Saturday, May 9 across 16 campus sites. The 2015 national champion will be crowned Tuesday, May 19 at the NCAA Final in Waco, Texas. NCAA Individual Championships commence the following day and continue through Monday, May 25.
