The Gators welcome the No. 4 recruiting class in the country to Gainesville this falll!

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators officially closed the books to the 2013-14 academic year with another successful edition Florida Volleyball Camp Sunday in the O’Dome. Now the Orange and Blue can look forward to the start of the 2014 season with practice scheduled to kick off Aug. 9 -- and Florida has a lot to be excited about.

In addition to 12 returning players from the 2013 squad, the Orange and Blue welcome an outstanding freshman class to campus. In fact, Florida volleyball will enters 2014 season with the No. 4 recruiting class in the nation, according to’s Top 30 Collegiate Recruiting Classes of 2014.

Loaded with talent, UF’s first-year student-athletes will look to replace departing senior setter Taylor Brauneis and all-star middle blocker Chloe Mann. Freshmen Rhamat Alhassan, Abby Detering -- who enrolled on campus in January -- Samantha Dubiel, Lindsey Rogers, and Carli Snyder compose Florida’s stellar recruiting class.

"We’ve looked forward to seeing this class in a Florida uniform for some time,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “They have a chance to leave their mark on Gator Volleyball much like some of the elite classes before them."

Florida also checks in at No. 5 on Volleyball Magazine’s top-10 recruiting class list, with Alhassan, Detering and Snyder on VBM’s Fab 50 honor roll.

Alhassan, listed at 6-foot-4, recently came off a USA Volleyball Women’s Junior National Team gold-medal finish in mid-July in Guatemala. Alhassan was the Most Valuable Player, Best Blocker and All-Star Team member at the U20 NORCECA Continental Championships in addition to helping Team USA to gold. If one Team USA MVP isn’t enough, Snyder was also the NORCECA Girls’ U18 Continental Championship MVP in 2012 when Team USA defeated the Dominican Republic.

Lots of talent in the class and the Gators can’t wait to get started!

Before the season kicks off, Florida fans will have a chance to preview the 2014 talent, meet the incoming Gators, and see their favorite returners on Fan Day Aug. 16th at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The Orange and Blue scrimmage is slated for 3:30 p.m., while the volleyball team will sign autographs from 5-6 p.m.
