Kelvin Taylor was named to the 2014 Doak Walker Award Watch List.

University of Florida running back Kelvin Taylor was named to the 2014 Doak Walker Award Watch List, as announced by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum Thursday.

The sophomore from Belle Glade, Florida, saw action in 10 games in 2013, starting four at running back. He finished second on the team with 508 yards on 111 carries (4.6 avg) with four touchdowns. Taylor was UF’s leading rusher in five of the final six games last season, totaling 410 yards across those match ups. He was selected to the Freshman All-SEC team and was named an All-Freshman Honorable Mention by College Football News.

The prestigious Doak Walker Award was created in 1989 to recognize the nation’s premier running back for his accomplishments on the field, achievement in the classroom and citizenship in the community. It is the only major collegiate football award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.

Semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 18, and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will vote to determine the finalists to be revealed on Nov. 24. The recipient will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 11, on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas, Texas, in Feb. 2015.

The 2014 season kicks off on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. when the Gators host Idaho. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online.
