Birmingham, Ala.

Belinda Woolcock was one of two named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.

University of Florida women’s tennis student-athletes Kourtney Keegan and Belinda Woolcock were recognized for their success in the classroom during the 2013-14 school year when they were named to the Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll as announced by the SEC on Friday.

The freshmen both earned SEC First-Year Academic honors for maintaining a personal grade point average of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or having a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution as well as being on scholarship, a letterwinner, having completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution, and having been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.

Combined with the four upperclassmen – Alexandra Cercone, Olivia Janowicz, Brianna Morgan and Sofie Oyen – who made the SEC Academic Honor Roll, the UF women’s tennis team had six players recognized for their academic achievements during the last school year. Florida has 55 First-Year Academic Honor Roll selections across all sports in addition to 184 non-first-year selections for a total of 243 student-athletes on the SEC Academic Honor Rolls in 2013-14.

In 13 years under head coach Roland Thornqvist, 17 women’s tennis players have been named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, which began in 2003.
