Ryan Harris will begin his career with the Lowell Spinners, the Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

Right-hander Ryan Harris became the fifth member of the 2014 Gator baseball team to sign a professional contract when he came to terms with the Boston Red Sox. He had been chosen in the 26th round with the 794th overall pick and will forgo his final year of eligibility at the University of Florida. He has been assigned to the Lowell Spinners of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League, joining Gator teammate Karsten Whitson.

 

In 2014, Harris posted a 3-2 record and compiled a 3.00 earned run average in 27 appearances, including his first career start. He led the SEC Champions with five saves and was part of three shutouts.

 

As a sophomore in ’13, the righty paced the club with 37 appearances, the highest total for a Gator pitcher since Connor Falkenbach’s school-record 51 outings in 2005. Harris collected a team-high five victories and was 5-4 with a 3.07 ERA in 58.2 innings, with 51 strikeouts and 15 walks. He rated third on the club in strikeouts and held foes to a .243 clip. During his freshman campaign, the Jupiter, Fla., native appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen and sported a 2-0 record with a 3.38 ERA in 16 innings.

 

Over his collegiate career, Harris was 10-6 with a 3.09 ERA in 80 appearances, with five saves. He totaled 82 strikeouts in 110.2 innings.
