Karsten Whitson was picked by the World Champion Boston Red Sox in the 11th round.

The Gators had four players selected on the final day of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday. Head coach Kevin OíSullivanís squad tallied six selections over the three-day event that spanned 40 rounds. The Gators have now had 52 picks in his seven-year tenure (three in 2008, 10 in 2009, six in 2010, 11 in 2011, nine in 2012, seven in 2013).


Redshirt junior Karsten Whitson was taken by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round at No. 344. The right-hander was 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA this season, with 14 appearances, nine starts and 21 strikeouts in 37.1 innings. Over his Florida career, Whitson is 13-2 with a 2.95 ERA and 133 K in 168 innings. As a freshman in 2011, Whitson was chosen as the National Freshman Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game and was named to the organizationís Freshman All-American team. He also earned Freshman All-American recognition from Baseball America, Louisville Slugger and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).


Junior Casey Turgeon was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 24th round at No. 735. The second baseman batted .259 this season with a team-high 35 walks and was second on the squad in runs (36), RBI (33), doubles (11) and homers (4). Over his three years wearing the Orange and Blue, Turgeon has started 185 games and has a career average of .269, with 112 runs, 95 RBI, 28 doubles, 23 stolen bases and 13 homers.


Junior Ryan Harris went to the Boston Red Sox in the 26th round at No. 794. The right-hander was 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 27 appearances for the Gators this spring, with 19 strikeouts in 36 innings. He recorded a team-high five saves and was part of three Gator shutouts while limiting opponents to a .230 batting average. Harris has a 10-6 career mark with a 3.15 ERA in 79 appearances spanning 108.2 innings, with 81 K.


Although sidelined this season, redshirt junior Keenan Kish was selected in the 34th round by the Cincinnati Reds at No. 1, 025. The righty has a 1.72 ERA over his three-year Florida career, with 47 strikeouts in 47 innings.
